Conservatism, Dog-Whistle Politics & A Bloody Miracle
Conservatism: (i) Commitment to traditional values and ideas with opposition to change or innovation; and (ii) the holding of political views that favor free enterprise, private ownership, and socially conservative ideas.
I noticed that Trump supporters tend to be white. They are either rich, or rich wannabes, or po’ (i.e. poor). First of all, the rich know very well why they are conservative: they’ve ‘got it made’ and don’t want any changes and couldn’t give a shxt about justice, fairness, equality for all. They also want to keep their neighborhood nice and clean and as white as they can.
However, not many are rich; and the rich amount to only a few votes. So, the Trump camp also needs to appeal to the rich wannabes, those who’d like to think they are rich or want to be seen as rich. In case they didn’t tell you this on TV, buying and wearing the latest fashion items (might fool you into thinking but) won’t make you look as sexy/cool as those professional models modeling them.
Wake up and come to your senses! Trump and his tax cuts favor the rich, but amount to only few crumbs for you. You’re “sleepwalking” on the yellow brick road (of gold bars) in the Land of Oz! Remember, Dorothy said, “Todo, I’ve a feeling that we’re not in Kansas anymore!” Where should one’s sleepwalking end and reality begin? It’s conceivable that you might argue that you like sleepwalking just fine; but what consequence does that (and your silence) have for the rest of the society? (As Joan Rivers used to say,) “Can we talk? Really, can we talk?”
The Trump camp also reaches out to the po’ who desperately dream of being just like the rich someday. These po’ dream of being ruthlessly selfish and exploiting the less fortunate to show just how much “love” is in their heart for fellow human beings. I believe this is why Trump brags how rich he is – “I am so rich…” (By the way, his claim of being rich has been questioned for some time. It’s not certain whether he is as rich as he says he is. Remember, he’s a salesman.)
Moreover, the Trump camp also needs to appeal to the po’s racism based on their status insecurity and fear of losing their jobs to racial minorities and ‘immigants’ (i.e. immigrants). This is why the Trump camp resorts to (racist concepts hidden) dog-whistle politics. For example, Trump spoke of building a wall to keep the “bad hombres coming from Mexico.” Further, he never condemned the failures of the American criminal justice system for Afro-Americans. Trump never condemned the Tulsa massacre of June, 1921 perpetrated by white racists. Some people claim that the ruthless white massacre of the Afro-Americans in Tulsa is the hidden reason why he is holding his political rally in Tulsa in June, 2020.
Good luck to Trump supporters. I hope your savior has come. But note that there are many others who are well aware of what is going on. Consider the popular American political cliché: If Trump wins in November, I’m moving to Canada. Fortunately, many American ex-pats already live in Canada.
In any event, good luck – You’re gonna need it, despite your “savior.” No, more than that; with a savior like him, you’re gonna need a bloody MIRACLE!
(Bloody: British English slang. In American English, the word is used almost exclusively in its literal sense and is seen by American audiences as a stereotypical marker of British English, without any significant obscene or profane connotation.)
